I put fire and earth together and thought of chicken.

Specifically, the dish known as Beggar’s Chicken or 叫化鸡。

Legend has it that at the end of the Chinese Ming Dynasty/beginning of the Qing Dynasty, a desperately hungry beggar with no cooking tools killed a chicken, caked it in mud (feathers and all), and threw it into fire in the hopes that there’ll be enough left edible to satiate his belly.

Upon hardening of the mud, he took the filled husk out from the fire, and cracked it open to find that the feathers not only came off with the mud, but that the chicken meat was especially tender and fragrant after being cooked in its own juices.

Yum!
